11 What it costs An estimate, not a quote

A real number,
before the meeting.

Most of what we build lands between $30,000 and $150,000. This gives you a range in about thirty seconds, from the same rates we price from. If the number does not work, you have saved yourself an afternoon — and that is a good outcome.

Questions about the number

How much does a paver patio cost in North Jersey?
For the work we do, budget $28 to $40 per square foot installed — so an 800 square foot terrace runs roughly $22,000 to $32,000 before any wall, fire feature or lighting. That is above the $10 to $43 range you will see quoted statewide, because it buys a 235 mm excavation and a 150 mm compacted base rather than the 100 mm that fails by year three. Most complete projects we build land between $30,000 and $150,000.
Why is the estimate a range instead of one number?
Because the ground decides a great deal and we have not seen yours. Access, what is under the surface, how far the finished level sits from the existing grade, and where the water goes can move a project by thirty per cent between them. A single number this early would be a guess with a decimal point on it.
What makes a patio cost more than the estimate?
Access is the biggest one: a yard a machine cannot reach can add a third to the excavation. After that it is ledge within 900 mm of grade, clay that has to be over-excavated, a large change in level that turns a cut into a retaining wall, and drainage that has to be engineered and permitted.
Is this estimate binding?
No. It is an estimate built from our published rates, not a quote. You will get a written range from us before anyone comes out to the property, and a firm number after a site visit where we shoot grades. Nothing is binding until it is in a signed contract.
Can I do it in phases?
Yes, and it is often the right answer. We sequence so the expensive, disruptive work — excavation, base, drainage, any structure — happens once, and the elements that can wait, such as the pergola or the lighting, come later. Ask for a phased plan at the consultation and we will draw it that way.
